New features on the moults and morphogenesis of the human filaria Loa loa by using rodent hosts consequences.
The development of the human filaria Loa loa (Dirofilariinae, Onchocercidae), previously studied in monkeys, was studied using the non permissive hosts-mice and jirds. The development proved to be rapid: moult 3 occurred on day 8 post-inoculation, the adult stage was reached on day 25 and measured at that time 3-3.5 mm in length. As in the other filarioids, the female genital apparatus develope...
متن کاملEvidence against Wolbachia symbiosis in Loa loa
BACKGROUND: The majority of filarial nematode species are host to Wolbachia bacterial endosymbionts, although a few including Acanthocheilonema viteae, Onchocerca flexuosa and Setaria equina have been shown to be free of infection. Comparisons of species with and without symbionts can provide important information on the role of Wolbachia symbiosis in the biology of the nematode hosts and the c...
متن کاملAnterior Chamber Live Loa loa: Case Report
We reported a case of unusual intraocular Loa loa in a 27-year-old patient who presented with painful red eye. Biomicroscopy revealed a living and active adult worm in the anterior chamber of the right eye. After surgical extraction under local anesthesia, parasitological identification confirmed L. loa filariasis.
متن کاملSubconjunctival Loa Loa worm: case report.
A 38-year old Ghanaian suddenly had the sensation of a foreign body in his right eye. Slit-lamp examination revealed a transparent worm underneath the conjunctiva. With topical anesthesia, the complete worm, 3.5 cm long, was removed surgically. A microbiological analysis at the Institute of Tropical Medicine confirmed the diagnosis of Loa Loa. Laboratory tests showed negative blood eosinophilia...
